If you install Solar PV Panels the electricity companies will pay you up to 21p per kWh for all electricity generated, this is guaranteed for 25 years under the Government's Feed In Tariff (FIT) and is also index linked. This is paid irrespective of whether you use the electricity or sell it to the electricity company. By installing Solar PV panels and generating your own electricity you will also be taking steps to safeguard against energy inflation which is anticipated to increase by 10% per year for the next 5 years.
A typical 4kWh Solar PV panel system on a south facing roof could generate £1,200 a year. With index linking and savings on your electricity bills from FREE electricity your initial investment of £8,995 could return £65,000 over 25 years.
Harvesting the sun
As part of the Kyoto Agreement and the Climate Change Act 2008 the UK Government is committed to reducing carbon levels by 80% by 2050. Micro-generation is at the forefront of government plans to increase green energy production in the UK and photovoltaic cells (Solar PV panels) are leading the way.
In April 2010 the Government amended the grant offering and created the Feed In Tariffs also known as “clean energy cash-back”. The Feed In Tariff is currently at 21p per kWh for domestic users, a good incentive to harvest the sun.
